Roquefavour Aqueduct
About
The Roquefavour Aqueduct allows water from the Marseille canal to cross the Arc River in the towns of Ventabren and Aix-en-Provence to supply the city of Marseille. Its construction was decided upon by the mayor of Marseille, Maximin de Consolat, who entrusted the project to a young engineer, Franz Mayor de Montricher. The structure consists of three tiers of arches, is 375 meters long and 83 meters high. Construction began in 1841 and was completed in 1847. It was listed as a historical monument in 2002.,
The Roquefavour aqueduct has been recognized as the largest stone structure in the world.
