The Cezanne Route

The Cezanne Route is the only road in France classified as a Historical Monument; it is an exceptional heritage site. It connects Aix-en-Provence to the village of Tholonet.

Some still call it the D17, others knew it as the little road to Tholonet, but since 1959 it has been the "Cezanne Road".

This protected site is known throughout the world, thanks to the extraordinary beauty of its landscapes and to the man who immortalized them: Paul Cezanne.

The Cezanne Route joined the Council of Europe's Impressionisms Routes© Network at the beginning of 2022. The Impressionisms Routes project in Europe aims to create and maintain a link within the continent between the sites that inspired European Impressionist and plein air painters from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century.
