Hiking along the coastal path

About

The Issambres coastal path follows the Mediterranean coastline, offering a hike between coves and inlets. Its origins lie in the customs officers' path of the First Empire. Between rugged coastline, secluded beaches, and Mediterranean vegetation, the path reveals varied and breathtaking landscapes.

Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to discover a place steeped in history: the Gallo-Roman fishpond. Formerly known as the "moray eel fishpond," it is a remarkable vestige of the Roman era. Used for fish farming and likely for trade with the town of Fréjus, it illustrates the quality of life enjoyed by the Romans during this period. This site also offers valuable insight into the economic organization, fishing techniques, and construction methods employed at the time. Classified as a historical monument since 1939, it stands as a fascinating testament to the region's maritime past.

Practical information: Wear appropriate hiking boots, even though the trail follows the coastline. Some rocky sections can be slippery and require extra caution. In case of strong winds or heavy swells, access to the coastal path is not recommended, as it can become dangerous.
