Oil mill and remains of a press

An 18th-century oil mill and the remains of a Gallo-Roman press can be discovered thanks to two interpretive panels in the heart of the Olive Garden.

At the foot of olive trees that are four to five centuries old, discover an olive oil mill restored in 2021, along with two archaeological remains related to olive oil production, explained on interpretive panels. These include a counterweight and a sandstone base block, elements of a lever press dating from between the 1st and 2nd centuries. This oil extraction technique is presented, along with other olive oil mill artifacts discovered in the area, attesting to this production since antiquity.
The blood mill, dating from 1787 and originally hydraulic, also allows us to evoke these more modern extraction processes and to address the importance of olive growing in our territory.
