The Chartreuse de la Verne on foot

A hiking trail located in a state forest composed of species typical of the Maures region: chestnut, cork oak, holm oak and maritime pine. Between the Verne reservoir and the Chartreuse de la Verne monastery.

Located 12 km from the village of Collobrières, the Chartreuse de la Verne is much more than just a monument to visit. It's an invitation to experience a timeless escape, a haven of serenity far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. To fully appreciate its unique atmosphere, there's nothing better than exploring the surrounding landscapes on foot.

Upon leaving the parking area, where you'll find an information panel about the Maures Integral Biological Reserve, turn left towards the Chartreuse de la Verne, following the track. You can enjoy a panoramic view of the Chartreuse, which you'll reach via a track after approximately 700 meters.

After observing the imposing building and its majestic gate, whose pillars are composed of Maures Serpentine with a characteristic green color, continue your circuit leaving it on your left until a fork in the road (intersection with the ridge track).

Continue your circuit by descending to your left along the Capelude track, at the edge of which you can observe magnificent chestnut trees with strange shapes.
After a few dozen meters, you pass by the Font-Sainte fountain.

Continue towards the Verne reservoir along the Capelude trail. You will cross the Règue du Pas du Loup stream; you will cross it again below the trail, where it feeds the Verne reservoir during floods. Continue to the Capelude 2 signpost.

At this point, leave the Capelude track to the right for a path through the undergrowth which leads you to the Verne reservoir via the Argentière valley. This path is bordered by vegetation characteristic of the Maures massif (strawberry trees, heathers, cork oaks).
After about 1 km, you will see on your left some superb terraces, remnants of past human activity, before arriving on the Verne trail which runs alongside the reservoir of the same name.

Continue your circuit on your left along the Verne reserve (passing through the Règue du Pas du Loup valley).
You pass through a gate and arrive at an intersection with the Capelude trail on your left. A few meters after this intersection, take a fairly stony and steep path on your left which allows you to rejoin the Capelude trail through a pleasant shaded undergrowth (approximately 2 km).
Towards the end of this section, you pass under a eucalyptus grove with its characteristic scent.
You then arrive on the Capelude trail and all you have to do is follow it to your right towards the Chartreuse to reach your starting area.
