Bishop's Tower Castle

Come and discover the Château of the Tour de l'Evêque, a wine estate in organic and biodynamic agriculture, in the heart of an exceptional cirque of vines surrounded by the hills of the Maures.

The Sumeire family, already owners of Font-Freye since 1933, acquired this vast estate located near Pierrefeu-du-Var in 1958. Formerly ecclesiastical property and summer residence of the bishops of Toulon, the place has the peculiarity of bearing two names: Château La Tour de l'Évêque and Château La Tour Sainte-Anne, in reference to an old chapel that was once a place of pilgrimage.

Steeped in history, the estate is deeply rooted in the heritage of Provence and France. Today, it is managed by Pierre François de Bernardi, nephew of Régine Sumeire. A true icon of the Provençal wine scene, she left her mark on the history of rosé as one of the pioneers of pale rosés. In 1985, she created the Pétale de Rose cuvée, which has since become an emblematic benchmark in Provence.

With more than 80 hectares of vineyards, the Château La Tour de l'Évêque benefits from an exceptional landscape, nestled in a natural setting surrounded by the Maures hills.

Our practices: organic and biodynamic farming, plowing with horses, manual harvesting, sorting in the vineyard, massal selection.

Our principles: Respect for the terroir, gravity-flow winemaking, whole-cluster pressing, champagne press.

Guided tour & introduction to tasting: €12 / person (approximately 1 hour 30 minutes).

Visitors discover the history of the estate, the cellars designed according to the principle of gravity, the winemaking practices, as well as a selection of vintages for tasting.
