About
A harmonious estate and family.
Vines and olive trees swaying in the sea breeze,
A fortified town nestled on the banks of the Lecques river,
All of it scorched by the sun.
The Château Pradeaux entered the PORTALIS family in 1752 through an inheritance which benefited Jean-Marie-Etienne PORTALIS, minister of Napoleon, co-author of the civil code of 1804 and author of the Concordat.
This property is the most representative of the traditions of Bandol: a Mourvèdre vineyard held to perfection first by Countess Arlette Portalis who entrusted her heir Cyrille Portalis with the task of continuing her work.
The Countess's winemaking adventure and the destiny of Château Pradeaux began in 1940 on this 26-hectare estate.
Living in Paris, the Countess and her mother retreated to their holiday home, which was none other than the Château Pradeaux, from the very beginning of the war.
The operation of the vineyard and olive groves was then managed by a manager and two sharecroppers.
After the occupying troops ransacked the vineyards, the Countess embarked on the production of a rich red wine with more than 80% Mourvèdre: Pradeaux became the kingdom of Mourvèdre.
Since 1983, Cyrille, her nephew and adopted son, as well as his wife Magali, have taken over and continue the work of this great lady.
Indeed, having studied viticulture at the Beaune wine school in Burgundy, Cyrille is also a wine enthusiast who intends to perpetuate the Château Pradeaux tradition from generation to generation. This is why Cyrille is the sole person responsible for the winemaking and aging of the wines at Château. The Countess said of him, shortly before handing over the reins: "He is my savior, a true winemaker and an excellent cellar master.".
