The large market - Textiles, crafts, flea market

The town's large market is a true institution in Provence. It's the traditional meeting place for locals and visitors alike. It's a place for encounters and exchanges that perpetuates the tradition of a bygone era of commerce, which has now become an essential means of obtaining supplies.

The food market allows you (depending on the season) to discover and buy fruits and vegetables. With some local products, such as the Calisson d'Aix, the Cavaillon melon, goat cheese, Carpentras strawberries, soap products, lavender honey, syrups, jams, olives and olive oils with protected designation of origin, or even fine wines from the vineyards of Provence.

Many artisans are also present, offering large stalls of tablecloths, quilts, and fabrics by the meter. Provençal earthenware and pottery are very prominent in the form of plates, dishes, and other kitchen utensils.

Finally, antique dealers and secondhand dealers offer unusual objects or accessories worthy of a cabinet of curiosities.

Antique dealers are located in the Place des Combattants d'Afrique du Nord and at the lower end of the Cours Mirabeau. Craftspeople set up shop at the top of the Cours Mirabeau (Place Forbin), on Rue Thiers, and in the Place Verdun. Textile vendors are located on the Cours Mirabeau.
