Arena Lake
About
Lake Arena is an artificial lake located at the foot of the Roquebrune Rock, resulting from the flooding of an old sand quarry that was exploited for about forty years.
Covering approximately 30 hectares, the lake is supplied with water by the Argens river.
It is of great ecological interest:
Its western part, covered in reedbeds, offers natural shelter for nesting birds and spawning grounds for fish.,
Its banks, made up of compacted sand, provide an ideal habitat for the European bee-eater, which digs its burrows there.,
> Many bird species are recorded there, in particular the grey heron.
After the old quarry was flooded, a swimming beach and a water sports center were created. Several sports and activities are permitted, including kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and pedal boating.
