About
As part of the Les Musicales dans les Vignes Festival, join Don Billiez for a jazz concert. Driven by a distinctive sound and passionate melodies, Don Billiez embodies a free, intense, and deeply soulful saxophone style.
Don Billiez is a prominent figure in the afro-rock, blues and rock scene. He began his career in the early 1980s as a member of the legendary group Touré Kunda, with whom he shared four years of world tours and participated in three albums, including the mythical Paris–Ziguinchor.
It was as a saxophone sideman on the blues/rock scene that he made a lasting name for himself, instantly recognizable for his powerful, incisive, and deeply expressive tenor saxophone sound. He performed alongside major artists such as Alain Bashung and Paul Personne, collaborating with them for nearly ten years, both in concert and in the studio. He also shared the stage with Nino Ferrer, starting at the age of 21, during his first major stage performances.
Highly sought after, Don Billiez is invited by numerous artists to participate in their productions, enriching each project with his unique sonic signature. Over the years, he has carved out a prominent place alongside his peers, in the lineage of saxophone greats such as Gato Barbieri and Pharoah Sanders.
Driven by a distinctive sound and passionate melodies, Don Billiez embodies a free, intense and deeply soulful saxophone.
