Church of Our Lady of the Assumption

About

Built in the 16th century, this church contains exceptional furnishings, including very beautiful organs classified as "Historical Monument" built in 1668 by Charles Royer.

The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption is the result of the 16th-century expansion of a Romanesque chapel dedicated to Saint Peter. A parish church since 1524, it was a collegiate church from 1653 to 1790. The beautiful wrought-iron bell tower was built in 1626. The hour bell dates from 1667 (listed as a historical monument). The chancel (15th/16th century) is Gothic in style. The great vault was rebuilt in 1756. The polychrome marble high altar (listed as a historical monument) dates from 1772. The organ (listed as a historical monument) was built in 1668 by Charles Royer; the organ case is made of walnut (1668/1669) and was gilded in 1756. Seven paintings are on display, one dating from the 17th century and the other six from the 19th century. Behind a beautiful carved door of the Saint Peter chapel lies the reliquary arm of Saint Peter, crafted from silver-gilt and gilded copper (1526). This reliquary arm contains a relic of the Saint's arm (listed as a historical monument).
